Postpartum Pilates in Hollywood, FL

Postpartum Pilates in Hollywood, FL

If you've had a baby and want to start moving again, book an intro session and we'll figure out where you're at and build from there. Everything below is what that looks like in practice.

We work with a lot of moms

Postpartum clients are one of the more common reasons people find us, and they arrive at very different points. Some come in a couple of months after delivery, others come in two or three years later because they never quite got back into a routine and want one now. We program for both.

What most of them have in common is that nobody handed them a plan. They were told to rest, then told they were fine, and the stretch between those two things was left to them to sort out on their own, which is the stage we spend most of our time on.

What the first session looks like

The first session is an assessment rather than a workout. Dr. Mary watches how you move: how you breathe, how you stand, what your hips and core do when you shift your weight around. There's nothing to prepare for and nothing to pass, because the point is to see where your body actually is so the work we give you fits it. You'll finish that session knowing what we're starting with and the reasoning behind it.

How the work builds

We spend time on breath, alignment, and reconnecting to the deep core muscles that spent nine months stretched out of their usual position, which is the foundation the rest of your progress is built on.

From there we start adding resistance, then range, then more demand. The reformer suits this well because the springs adjust in small increments, so instead of choosing between too easy and too hard we can put you where you need to be and move you up as you get stronger. How quickly that happens varies a lot between people and isn't a pace you need to keep up with.

Private, duet, or small group

Most moms start with private sessions. One on one means full attention and an easy place to ask questions, and it's usually the fastest way to build a foundation. A duet is the same session shared with a friend, which some people prefer and which brings the cost down.

Once the basics are there, group classes are capped at six people. The instructor can see you, correct your form, and give you a modification when something isn't sitting right, which isn't realistic in a room of twenty. Plenty of clients end up mixing formats, keeping a private every few weeks to keep progressing and filling in with group classes.

Physical therapy when it's needed

Dr. Mary is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, so if something comes up that calls for treatment rather than training, it's handled here by the same person who already knows your history. Most clients never need that side of the practice, but it's available without being referred out to someone new.

Come in

We're at 4435 Sheridan Street in Hollywood, and we work with clients all around Broward County. Book an intro session and we'll take it from there.
